GOD makes a man a singer! GOD makes the song praiseful! Only God….can inspire a message through song and Only God can inspire the person who is singing that song. God allows the ear to hear and the heart to feel. God has done this in Robert’s life.

Robert Matelski, while in the US Navy in 1974, walked the aisle at a small Baptist church in Alameda, California. After his release from military service in 1977, and away from the Christian influence Robert had been surrounded by while in the service, many questions without answers had started to creep into Robert’s life. After relocating to Georgia from New Jersey in 1991, Robert started to attend a small Baptist church in Lawrenceville, GA. It was at this church some 21 years after walking the aisle in Alameda, California that Robert really “got saved”. After a church revival service in April 1995, Robert was so moved by the preaching that night that he had a heart to heart talk with the Lord and got things straight. That night on the floor of a studio apartment in Buford, GA, Robert accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior.

Hearing and responding to the Lord’s calling into ministry was something Robert had never expected. But within six months of accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, Robert, who had been singing in the church choir heard and answered that calling and entered the ministry to sing the Lord’s praises. It was not long before Robert gained exposure by opening for some of today’s best-known gospel groups. In May 2003, Robert’s first CD project was released.

Early in 2004, Robert fell ill with throat and sinus problems which lingered for a full year. From March to August 2005, Robert endured 4 throat procedures, and a sinus procedure. During this period of time, God took Robert over some very bumpy roads. Yet, Robert’s his faith in God grew stronger.

In order to get strength back into his voice, Robert took on a voice coach who helped not only to restore his voice, but Robert learned how to sing. In 2006, Robert released his break out project titled “The Secret’s Out”, which includes his first attempt at writing. You can hear clips from this project at his web site www.robertmatelskiministry.com.

Robert, strong and steady in health again, was about to go through the hardest time of his life in 2007. In February 2007, Robert was informed that he had prostate cancer. After surgery in March 2007, Robert developed complications from surgery and was rushed back to the hospital. Two blood clots had passed through his heart in the early morning hours of March 31st, 2007 and partially collapsed his right lung. This was certainly bad news for a singer. After a two week stay in the hospital, Robert was back home working on getting his strength and air back. Less than two months later, Robert was singing again. With a lack of wind to sing, Robert chose his songs carefully and just allowed God to lead as he always did.

Today, Robert is working on a new project that will include songs by Rodney Griffin of Greater Vision, a few older traditional hymns and a song that Robert has written. Expected release is August 2008.

Robert’s current radio release is “I’m Blessed” written by Gerald Crabb. Call your local southern gospel radio station and request the playing of this song.

Robert is accepting dates right now for 2008 and 2009.
