In 1974, while in the United States Navy, stationed in Alameda,
California, Robert Matelski walked the aisle at a small Baptist
church. As it turned out, this was the first step in Robert learning
to serve the Lord and responding to His call upon Robert’s life.
Today, Robert is so thankful to that one person who was following
God’s will and invited him to church. After being released from
military service in 1977, Robert went back home to New Jersey and
rarely went to church. Many questions without answers had started to
creep into Robert’s life. In 1991, Robert relocated to Georgia from
New Jersey, and, once again by the invite of someone, Robert started
to attend a small Baptist church in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Some 21
years after walking the aisle in Alameda, California, Robert really
came to know the Lord as his personal Lord and Savior.
After that night in April 1995, many things have happened to
Robert—all of which was the Lord guiding his life. Hearing and
responding to the Lord’s calling into ministry was something Robert
had never expected. But within six months of accepting Jesus Christ as
his Lord and Savior, Robert heard and answered the calling and entered
the ministry to sing the Lord’s praises. It was not long before Robert
gained exposure by opening for some of today’s best-known gospel
groups.
God has taken Robert over many very bumpy roads that left Robert with
a stronger faith each time. Early in 2004, Robert fell ill with throat
and sinus problems which lingered for a full year. From March 2005 to
August 2005, Robert endured four throat procedures and a sinus
procedure.
In order to get strength back into his voice, Robert took on a voice
coach, who helped not only to restore his voice, but increased his
range from that of a baritone to a second tenor.
Robert, strong and steady in health again, was about to go through the
hardest time of his life in 2007. In February 2007, Robert was
informed that he had prostate cancer. After surgery in March of 2007,
Robert developed complications from surgery and was rushed back to the
hospital. Two blood clots had passed through his heart in the early
morning hours of March 31st, 2007 and partially collapsed his right
lung. This was certainly bad news for a singer. After a two week stay
in the hospital, Robert was back home working on getting his strength
and air back. Doctors told Robert that it would take about three years
before he would have all his air back. With less air and less than two
months later, Robert was singing again-- just allowing God to lead as
he always did.
Many doors have opened for Robert in 2008 where he has been invited to
sing at some major Gospel Promotions. Today, Robert is working on
gathering songs for a new project that will include songs by Rodney
Griffin of Greater Vision, a few older traditional hymns and songs
Robert has written.
Through the blessings of our Lord, Robert has gained recognition from
peers and supporters alike. In 2008, Robert was nominated for the 2008
Sunrise Award, which is a Diamond Award given to an up and coming
artist or group which it is felt has what it takes to make it in the
world of Southern Gospel Music. Robert’s song, “I’m Blessed” written
by Gerald Crabb has made its way onto the national Southern Gospel
Charts. This is Robert’s first nationally charted song. With God
guiding the way, there are no losers….
In 2009 Robert expects to be full time ministry and as God opens the
doors to support this ministry Robert prays that many will respond and
invite Robert to sing and share his testimony at their local church.

Only God….can inspire a message through song and Only God can inspire
the person who is singing that song. Robert has so been inspired by
GOD.
